Golf--Tom Watson Kills The Competition At The British Open

Golf---Tom Watson Kills the competition at The British Open

By Mark Grove

Tom Watson may not be able to hit 300 yard drives consistently, but his drives were on line more than the majority of the BO contenders. As well, his putting was amazing.Don't say it was a fluke he did it.Chances are he worked at it like a bastard.

Stewart Cink ended up beating him in a playoff. If a 75 year old golfer in great shape was in the top 10 players for the majority of the tournaments he was in,you wouldn't say it was a fluke either.

Most people were hoping Watson would win because he's almost 60.I was hoping because he's a great golfer and has always been a favorite of mine. Like I said in a puttng tip article of mine on http://puttingtips.blogspot.com, if a player is not a great driver for length, they better have their short game chops down.

Watson seems to have just that.He said he wasn't very nervous at all. He had nothing to lose. You usually don't worry about every little thing when you don't think about it,and you just go for it regardless of the outcome.

And yes,Tiger didn't make a cut.I also mentioned that if Tiger continually went into a slump for a long period of time people that watch or go to tournaments would decrease.I still believe that. Most people think if Tiger is having a slump and not winning or even making the cut, that golf isn't worth watching.

There are great golfers out there besides Tiger.People are weird and easily taken in by the best athletes. That's why the PGA should be on the ball marketing wise promoting players other than Tiger.

Watson won in my mind. Some PGA tour player will start winning consistently despite any slump or even winning trend Tiger has. Underdogs will do it.Golf is a tough game and I take my hats off to the players in the BO and the other Majors.

Success to all Golfers.
