Sports Business World In This Tightening Economy--And How To Become A Sports Tycoon!
Sports Trend Update:
I still say more people will gravitate toward minor pro and amateur sports with the coming down-slide of the economy. I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. Pro hockey has some franchises bringing down their prices. George Gillett, without an e, the owner of the Montreal Canadiens said on The Fan 590 in Toronto that Montreal has tickets for 10 bucks and 22 bucks.
I'm not sure how many seats that takes up in the Bell Centre in Montreal, but I would hope that corporate boxes and suites would more than make up for those "cheap seats". As well, teams are paying players in US currency.
Just some things to consider. I'm not an economist, nor do I want the NHL to go down the drain. I truly think the NHL should not have 30 teams. Canadian teams are financially backing a number of have not American teams, and make up for 30 to 40 percent of the profitable teams in the NHL.
I still say minor pro and amateur sports will be the wave of the future, and my prediction that hockey in Canada will gravitate toward the street with people who love hockey will start their own street hockey leagues based upon playing like they did when they were kids.
Yes, using wooden sticks and either an orange hard ball or a lime green tennis ball. Those who really have guts will forgo a regular job and start their own street hockey league. What do you think skateboarders and board makers did?
They started their own contests for skateboarders literally on the street. Snowboarders probably did the same. That's what hockey should go back to. Everyone wants to be an NHL hockey player and pushing their kids beyond their capabilities or wants. That's greed coming from the parents.
But I think if someone who loves street sports like hockey, skateboarding or even stick-ball and snowboarding will capitalize on all this and do what they love. Even if they don't make much money. Hopefully this gives you some good ideas on sports business.
